once again an amazing episode! I am so remiss in not commenting more oftn but this was absolutely great and I had to comment. I have been shooting magnolias this spring and have struggled mightily but this was a grt episode to rethink my approach. thanks for all your creative insights. you continue to inspire all of us. i'll get the lensbaby out tonight and try again tomorrow!!

  2. Hi Steve,

Thank you for being here and thank you for the very kind words of support. Hope you have a great day photographing the magnolias!.... Sincerely, Craig

  3. Very well done Craig.

I've had the basic Lensbady for a couple of years, tried it a few times without much success. Your abstract macros are one of my favorite kind of images. A couple of questions; have you tried extension tubes instead of the diaptor? What aperture adaptor did you use for this excersize?

    Always enjoy your work.

    Thanks, Jack Martin

  4. Hi Jack,

Thank you for being here and thank you for the kind words.

I haven't tried extension tubes yet and I shot at f2.0 for all of the final shots in this episode.....Thanks again jack....Craig

  5. Hi Craig. Just wanted to say that I had retired my lensbaby because I just couldn't seem to get anything out of it that pleased me. Just sort of ordinary shots. Listening to your approach has inspired me to get the lens out again and try again. I love the idea of just putting the lens on the camera go out and start shooting, without having any preset idea in mind. I think that will free me up so that I can concentrate on shooting and not spending time or energy on getting a great picture right from the start. Remembering your shots and what you did with them will be a reminder of what I can do to make the shooting much more enjoyable.

    Thanks for the inspiration,

    Wes

  6. Watching you taking pictures, it seems to be so easy and everytime I see you doing some work on a foto, every change seems to be so obvious, but when I try to do the same thing, I recognize, how difficult it is.

Theese pictures are great, because I can look at them a very long time without getting bored. The RGB is a great idea for improving pictures, but likewise easy to listen, hard to do on my own pictures.

By the way, do you keep all of your pictures, or do you delete some of them, when you think, you won't use them anymore?

    Greatings

    Fornit

(Hope you understand, what I mean and sorry for my bad English)

  7. Hi Fornit,

Thank you for being here and for the kind words of support. Its fairly rare for me to erase or delete anything. That is true for me for three reason's. First, storage is inexpensive these days. Second, because I work in layers I never know when I might want to use part of an image. And last but not least, because I teach I like to show participants in my workshops and visitor's to the RV community the good bad and ugly of my process. What is fascinating to me as a teacher is that the images that didn't work have often been more inspiring than the ones that did. When people see everything that is behind the curtain they realize their process is very similar to mine (and everyone else). The great images arise out of a process which is mysterious and available to all. Thank you again for being here.... Craig

  8. Craig . . . you have encouraged me to start using a Lensbaby again. After watching your Light Diary episode on split focus portraits, I updated to the Lensbaby 2.

I love the information you share, and especially the process you follow. Keep sharing your philosophy . . . I learn so much . . . you are an inspiration!

  9. Hi Evie,

Thank you for the the very kind words of support!!!!...Craig

  10. Hi Craig,

It's terrific to hear the process as well as viewing beautiful images. I see the Botanical Dreaming has a couple of masters. I have found myself only recently shooting flowers and this diary has perfect timing. Your work, and process is inspiring, and I don't get on to comment often enough to let you know how much it's appreciated.

    Stay amused

    Jim

  11. I switched to digital about 8 months ago and have been looking at the lensbabies for quite awhile. After watching this video, I ordered the 3G. This type of macro is what I love but can't quite achieve. You talk about combining the layers. I hope you do a tutorial on how you do that, or have you already? Photoshop is tough but these tutorials help so much. Thank you and Mark for sharing.
