Cs 3 Download Problems

Just to share and I wonder if anyone else has come or will come across this problem. CS3 is supposed to work using the serial number from a previous version. Well after spending 6 hours downloading, it DOESN”T, well not with a serial number from CS2. It will however work as a 30 day free trail, so at least I’ll get to try it.

If anyone comes across this problem or finds a work around for it I’d be grateful if they could post here.

So I’ll be off to play!

Hi Alistair,

I have had an array of troubles this morning with serial numbers and with an error message about closing programs that are already closed.

I guess thats why they call it a beta version.

I tried to call Adobe support this morning but as you can imagine hold times were measured in epochs of time.

I will repost here if I get Adobe on the phone.

If you didn't know - you need to use a web form to change your CS2 serial into a CS3 serial.

I don't know if this link will work or not, but the link from the Adobe site is right under the download links.

The 30 day trial is mislabled. You must activate the Beta within 2 days or it stops working.

BTW - I just processed 15 images in CS3 and it's working great for me. Nothing major to report yet, but I'm in love with the new Curves dialog.

That’s the spirit of the RV in action, and it worked ! Where did you come up with this? Or should I have read the detail? Ah well if all else fails, read the manual, or even better wait for a workbench from Mark

I’m having so much fun with the ‘Quick Selection’ tool and the ‘refine edges’, together they make selections so simple.

I wonder how ‘bought’ plugins will function and also why they have chosen not to make ‘Shadow Highlight’ an adjustment layer?

Hope Craig is getting along better and look forward to hearing everyone else’s take on CS3.

Alistair - Are you using a Mac or PC?

For Intel Macs: Certain Plug-Ins will need to be recompiled to be a Universal Binary. They may work in CS3, but you may end up running the Rosetta emulation that defeats the speed advantages of CS3.

I haven't read anything else about Mac G4/G5 or PC compatability. I'll be trying Noise Ninja out before too long I'm sure. The actions I've loaded so far all appear to work fine.

I'm also running it on my PowerMac G5. I'm anxious to try it on my Intel Mac mini.

Runs fine on a new MacBook Intel dual etc with only 512mb of RAM, just loading to G4 Powerbook and Imac G5 both with 2mb of RAM.

More news as I get it loaded.

Alistair: Sorry, I was busy mucking about with CS3 or I would have answered that one for you...especially since I almost missed it as well and the only reason I didn't was that it took a while to download that huge file so I wound up reading the download page.

Matt: I'm with ya on the new curves dialog, it totally rocks. Have you messed about with the smart filter yet? That was very very cool as well, even if it means I'm getting dragged kicking and screaming into the "smart objects" arena.

Have either of you had problems with Bridge? I had a couple of issues initially with it locking up as it tries to process a folder of images...and it completely takes over my internet connection...seems to be okay for the moment, but we'll see. I'm digging the speed increase across the board, at least in PS! (oh...I'm running things on XP)

Thanks Stephen, Smart filter is great.

No I've had no problems with Bridge, on any of the three machines I'm running on, as for speed increase, I'm not really seeing anything noticable, with the exception of bridge that is a bit faster in loading.

Not to worry, I'm not experiencing blazing speed increases over on the windows side of the fence...but it's been an improvement.

Glad you are having fun with the smart filter capability - just be aware that using the smart filters can have a fairly large effect on your file size due to the use of smart objects. It's the unfortunate nature of the smart object design. Being able to return to a file and adjust a filter setting could be quite useful though...such a quandry! Guess I'll just have to add a couple more hard drives to my list for Santa!

Another note: Adobe has established forums for the Beta release where you can see the issues people are coming across, available workarounds, report bugs, request return of features that have been removed, et cetera. There are two forums, one for Bridge CS3 and one for PS CS3.

Since you are also running on XP; how do you open a jpeg in Camera Raw in the Windows version? I can't seem to find the dialogue box for that. Any help will be appreciated.
